Room Visualizers & More
At Monarch Plank we create the finest handcrafted wide-plank hardwood flooring, finished with the latest European coloring and texturing techniques. Our floors feature top-quality construction for superior stability, sawn top layers, and long length boards. All of our Oak floors are made with Western European Oak, which we believe provides the best canvas for creating beautiful floors. American and Russian Oak simply cannot compare to the fine grain structure and color of true European Oak. At Monarch Plank, we believe that a floor finish should enhance the natural beauty of the wood, not cover it. Many of our collections are coated with European oil finishes, which penetrate into the wood to become an integral part of it, rather than forming an artificial barrier on top. For those who prefer a more maintenance free floor, we are also proud to offer several collections of flooring coated with a matte urethane finish that mimics the look of oil, but requires less care.
Monarch Plank has been a leader in the use of advanced coloring techniques. Some of our most complex colors start with smoked or carbonized wood, where the wood color is changed from within before applying anything to it. Other floors are colored with products that create color by interacting with the natural compounds (tannins) in the wood. These ‘reactive stains’ provide a natural richness and variation that cannot be achieved with the pigments used in most stains and oils. Reactive stains can also be used to create antique effects that look truly authentic, giving the floors a time-worn appeal that is otherwise impossible to replicate. Because our unique coloring processes interact with rather than hiding the natural variation of the wood, each floor is uniquely its own and cannot be duplicated.
Monarch Plank floors come in a wide variety of textures, including wire-brushed, hand-brushed, sand-blasted, and hand-scraped options. If you have a texture in mind that you don’t see among our standard collections, the master craftsmen in our California factory can texture your Monarch Plank ‘Finished-to-Order’ flooring to exactly your specifications.
The Monarch Plank Design Team works closely with top designers and European finish manufacturers, constantly experimenting with the latest products and processes. At the same time, we are committed to creating top-quality floors, and are careful not to introduce anything that hasn’t been thoroughly tested and proven. With nearly a century of hardwood flooring experience, we understand the importance of performance.
Monarch Plank is connected to a network of skilled hardwood flooring professionals who represent and install our floors reliably. Our installation partners include many of the most respected craftsmen in our industry. The entire team at Monarch Plank works hard to ensure that our flooring meets your requirements and expectations, from initial design to project completion.
We would like to assist you in beautifying your home to make your dream floor a reality and a unique reflection of you. We look forward to hearing from you.

At Monarch Plank we are committed to protecting the health of our forests and our customers. Our wood is sourced from responsibly managed forests in Europe and the U.S., and we strive to use the most eco-friendly adhesives and finishes available.
All of Monarch Plank's raw material comes from verified legal, selectively harvested forestry operations. We source wood only from U.S. and European forests, where forestry laws are strict and well enforced, and from rubber plantations, where the wood is salvaged after the trees no longer produce latex. (Rubberwood, aka Hevea, is dense and extremely stable, providing an excellent substrate for some of our collections.)
Monarch Plank does not buy Oak from Russia, where illegal and otherwise irresponsible harvesting is currently commonplace. Illegal logging is a huge problem in the Russian Far East, where harvesting of Oak and other species in protected areas is reducing the last remaining habitat of the endangered Siberian Tiger. Most of that Oak is being processed in Chinese factories and sold in the United States, where it is often labeled as ‘European Oak.’
Environmental considerations aside, we also find that true European Oak (from Western Europe) has a more beautiful grain structure than Oak from the Russian Far East. AND, claims that Russian Oak is more dense than true European Oak because the trees grow more slowly at those northern latitudes are not supported by science. In fact, the Oak species group is unique in that Oak trees grown farther north actually yield wood that is LESS dense.
For those customers who prefer independent third-party verification that the purchase of their floor supports responsible forestry practices, we also offer products certified by a non-profit organization, the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC). Monarch Plank stocks genuinely FSC-certified European Oak flooring for our Artisan’s Preferred unfinished and ‘Finish-to-Order’ collections, and other products may be available by special order. Please inquire.
Note: we say 'genuinely' FSC-certified because some of our competitors use the FSC logo in ways that can be misleading. The fact that a company is certified and features the FSC logo in their marketing does not mean that what they are selling is FSC-certified. For verification, check that the invoice clearly lists the FSC-certified status of the individual product in its line-item description.

All Monarch Plank products are made with zero-VOC or extremely low-VOC adhesives and are CARB Phase II compliant, adhering to the most stringent formaldehyde emissions standard (<0.05ppm) in existence. Some of our collections are also made with formaldehyde-free adhesives, or with ‘No Added Urea-Formaldehyde’ (NAUF), and therefore qualify for the LEED Low-Emitting Materials credit. Please check the individual product Specification Sheet for details.
A Note About Formaldehyde:
All wood products, including solid wood, emit formaldehyde. The type of adhesive used in an engineered wood floor is one of many factors that contribute to the overall formaldehyde emissions of the product. One such factor is the species – some species emit many times more formaldehyde than others. Another factor is whether or not heat was used during the pressing process, which can flash off much of the formaldehyde from both the wood and the glue. Surprisingly, wood products manufactured with formaldehyde-based adhesives sometimes have lower formaldehyde emissions than those manufactured with formaldehyde-free adhesives, since the latter are usually cold-pressed. Ultimately, it’s the emissions test data that matters to our health, not the type of glue that was used. All Monarch Plank products emit less than 0.05ppm formaldehyde, which is less than some solid wood species.
Monarch Plank uses three types of coatings, each with different environmental attributes:
UV-Cured Urethane - All urethane finishes are made with petroleum-based ingredients, but because they are 100% solids and are cured in ultra-violet ovens at the factory, UV urethanes are completely inert and will not off-gas at all in the home. Monarch Plank uses the most technologically advanced urethane finish systems available. UV urethane finishes can be cleaned with odorless, solvent-free cleaners.
UV-Cured Natural Oil -Made primarily with renewable natural ingredients such as sunflower oil, soy oil, and carnauba wax, these finishes contain little or no petroleum-based ingredients. Like UV-cured urethanes, UV-cured natural oils will not off-gas in the home. UV-cured oils are maintained with the same zero-VOC cleaning and maintenance products as Oxidative Natural Oils. While some of the products used for periodic maintenance may have mild odors, the Rubio Monocoat, Woca and Ciranova maintenance products recommended by Monarch Plank are VOC-free. Rubio Monocoat (Belgium), Woca (Denmark), and Ciranova (Belgium) are recognized leaders in the manufacture of natural oil wood finishes.
Oxidative Natural Oil - Our hand-rubbed oxidative oils are VOC-free and made with natural ingredients. Oxidative oils are air-dried rather than being UV-cured. We are careful to ensure that they are completely dried at the factory before packaging. These finishes are cleaned and maintained with zero-VOC products.

Monarch Plank's flooring products can help a project earn these LEED credits:
IEQc4.4 – Low Emitting Materials – made with no added urea-formaldehyde
MRc7 – Certified Wood – made with FSC-certified wood
Note: not all Monarch Plank products qualify for these LEED credits. Please check each product’s Specification Sheet for details.
